Consecration: Witchcraft Concept & Practice

MAGICSPELLS & RITUALS

Methods of Consecration

There are a variety of ways you can consecrate things in your magical practice, and everyone will consecrate things differently. You can make your own unique and specific ways of consecrating, you can follow a traditional method, or you can follow a method you learned from another practitioner - the choice is yours. Now let's explore some ways that you can do consecration.

The Elements

Pass the subject through earth, air, fire, and water, whether it be directly or symbolically through representations.

Incantations or Blessings

Speak a phrase or a power word over the subject.

Invoking Spirits

Call upon and invite a spirit, and it's power and energy into the subject.

Anointing

Apply a special ritual oil on the subject.

Sigil Marking

Mark the subject with a special sigil.

Sacred Materials

Use other magical items on the subject, such as a cloth, a wand, etc.

Natural Sites

Use the power and energy of the land, sea, or other sacred sites that hold significance to you on the subject.

I'm sure there are more methods of consecration aside from what I have mentioned here, these are just a few. When constructing your consecration ritual you can combine any number of these things and more, or less, it's up to you how you choose to practice.

Consecration in witchcraft is the ritual act of dedicating an object, space, or person to magical, sacred, spiritual use. Consecration is a common foundational magical practice, and usually goes hand in hand with cleansing and charging, where cleansing will be done before consecrating and charging will be done after. Consecrating something is a powerful way to devote it to a particular magical use in your craft, transforming it from ordinary or mundane into something sacred to your practice, and imbuing it with a particular power and purpose that was not present in it before. It has a way of bringing in a level of devotion and intention that deepens and enriches the relationship we have with parts of our practice and how we interact with or use them.
